Incubus：35年の軌跡

今年で結成35年目になるincubus（インキュバス）の名曲たちの中から、ほんの一部をランダムにミックスしたプレイリストです。 90年代のミクスチャー界隈で、どれだけの人が彼らの音楽から影響を受けただろうか。 音作りからファッションから髪型まで、真似したくて後に続いたバンドマンがどれほどたくさんいたことか。 しかし、やがて時は容赦なく流れ、incubus自身も自分たちのことを「時代遅れの公衆電話のような存在」と表現する時代がやってきた。 こうなってくると、だんだん誰も真似すらしなくなってくる。 そこにあるのは、圧倒的な自己受容。 多くのバンドが、自然な老いのベクトルを抑圧した偶像的ファッションの中に留まろうとする中で、incubusは「歳を重ねた人間がどうなっていくのか？」をそのまま見せつけてくれます。 明らかに歌うことさえ苦しそうなこともある最近の様子は、90年代の頃とは別の次元で衝撃的で、当時よりも無条件で胸を打つ。 incubusは、今や誰でもやっている「ボーカルのお化粧直し」や「音の整形手術」といわれる人工的なピッチ補正を、スタジオ撮りでもライブ本番でも行わない、さらには後から修正し放題となる公式ライブDVDの編集でも行わないことを信条とする、現代ではまれに見るオーガニックなバンドです。 最後の曲には、ブランドン（Vo. ）のソロ活動の曲を入れてみました。 彼は長年、海や生き物などの自然を敬う気持ちから、アートを通して環境問題のメッセージを発信する活動を続けています。
